Behind the scenes heroes: Meet Lisa, our HR Manager
Q1. What were you doing before Hutchinson?
Before I joined Hutchinson, I worked for another local company called McIntyre’s Tools and Equipment. I grew to appreciate the values instilled by working for a family run business. I had been with the company for ten years, gaining valuable experience and building strong relationships with colleagues and clients alike.
Q2. Why did you choose to join Hutchinson?
I joined Hutchinson five months after the birth of my third child when I decided I wanted a better work-life balance. The hours at Hutchinson were exactly what I was looking for, allowing me to spend more time with my family while continuing to develop my career. It was a company I had followed closely, as they are local to me, and I admired their people strategy and the way they engage with the community. It felt like the perfect opportunity to align my priorities with a role in a company whose values I truly respect.
Q3. What does a typical day in your role look like?
A typical day for me can vary greatly depending on the needs of the business. Whether it’s recruiting new staff members and managing the entire process from advertising and interviews to successful onboarding, I am involved at every stage. I also work closely with the HR team to develop and deliver our CSR strategy for the year. This includes organising on-site well-being talks and healthy eating initiatives, as well as planning charity events to raise money for a local charity.
One aspect of my role I’m particularly passionate about is opening up our factory to schools in the local area to showcase our world-class facilities. This year alone, we welcomed 15 schools, with over 270 students and teachers visiting. It’s incredibly rewarding to see them leave feeling inspired about the possibilities of a future in engineering. Every day brings something new, and I love the variety and impact of my work.
Q4. What are the best things about working at Hutchinson?
The best thing about working at Hutchinson is the people. Everyone is always ready to help out and lend a hand, creating a real sense of teamwork and support. Mark and Richard have built a fantastic family culture within the business, and it’s something that everyone genuinely embraces in their daily work. And, of course, I can’t forget to mention the great coffee we have on offer – it’s definitely a bonus!
Q5. Any advice for someone who is thinking about joining Hutchinson?
You won’t regret it. Hutchinson has allowed me to grow in my role and progress within the company. They truly value their employees and are passionate about creating development opportunities, enabling everyone to achieve their career aspirations. If you join Hutchinson, it’s not just a job—it’s becoming part of a family that invests in you and supports you in the workplace.
